Russian Students from the Silk Road Academy Experience the Art of Woodblock New Year Pictures, Immersing in the Charm of Intangible Cultural Heritage

On May 7th, nine Russian students from the Ural State University of Transport visited the Zhuxian Town Woodblock New Year Picture Studio located in the Science and Innovation Building of the college to partake in the craft of making Zhuxian Town woodblock new year pictures
Yang Lu, a faculty member from the School of Art, elucidated to the students the importance of preserving and passing on intangible cultural heritage, detailing the history of Zhuxian Town's woodblock new year pictures, the distinctive features of the craft, and its production process.The students were captivated by the vibrant colors and striking imagery of the new year pictures. They scrutinized each detail, absorbing the wealth of cultural information and historical narratives embedded within the artwork.The students expressed awe at the diversity and expressiveness of the art form, feeling as though they were transported through time and space to encounter the ancient legends and historical tapestry of China.Through the hands-on experience of producing woodblock new year pictures, the students deeply sensed the unique qualities of this artistic tradition.
This cultural exchange allowed the Russian students to discover the allure of traditional Chinese art and to gain insights into the profound cultural heritage and distinctive meanings of Chinese culture, offering them a fresh perspective on its inclusiveness and diversity.
